TALE 24 - Entangled...

She missed her usual AC bus
She was saving up for her home...
Sulking for having to now look out for a rickshaw she felt bad
Bad for snoozing the alarm twice...
Just then he came running
I saw you missed the bus...
Are you going to Borivali?, he asked...
Yes she said...
If you don't mind I ll share the rickshaw with you... He suggested...
She felt better, oh yes...
They travelled from Thane to Borivali together that morning...
She saw him in her AC bus the next morning...
Gave him a familiar smile...
Coincidentally they took the same bus back...
This time sitting together...
They exchanged pleasantries
Information about each others jobs working hours job profile was shared...
Back home she finished her domestic chores, put the children to bed and waited for her husband to return...
On my way....reaching in 45 mins, messaged the husband...
She wanted to relax...
Logging on to Facebook she randomly typed his name...
His profile pic had him with his wife and children...
She smiled looking at the happy picture...
Changed her profile pic into a recent photograph with herself kids n the husband...
Husband comes, dinner is served....
Talks about children their exams extracurriculars and bills followed...
Ritualistic intimacy followed that night which happened to be out of habit and not passion...
Like most couples who ve been married for long, she thought about her marriage as she slept beside her already snoring husband...
Where was this heading?
Mechanical life... Maddening rush... Rat race... Loans... EMI's
Appraisals, performance, kids
In laws...customs traditions...
She suddenly felt out of place...
Felt choked...
In the days that followed she became friends with this travel buddy of hers...
They found out that both of them though well settled in their personal life had some kind of unsettlement...
Lack of zing, chemistry, excitement, spontaneity led to boredom...
They incidentally also found out that they had many common interests and would make great partners...
So they decided to take it up as a project...
They weren't in love but did things together that they loved...
Watched plays after work theatre being their common passion...
Went for weekend concerts...
They also met at each others houses to chat play scrabble and cook together...
They enrolled themselves for zumba classes...
Took up an indoor vertical garden project and helped each other...
They went for monsoon drives and trekked their way up random hills n mountains on city outskirts...
They called each other even at midnight and chatted for long hours...
They grew fond of each other...
Many of these things, their spouses knew...
Some things the spouses were kept off...
Fortunately the spouses were too busy with their own lives and wanted to relax as well...
They never hung out together with their families
They didn't want to...
They were special for each other...
At one point of time thoughts about love, intimacy did cross their minds...
They did go the physical way too...
But intimacy was just one aspect of their compatible equation...
He and she were happy in their marital set up...
Their spouses n kids were to precious to be called off...
They understood that they liked each other and loved their families...
They now had even happier spouses since they were now happy individually...
Hence the happiness vibe spread across their families...
If society allowed polygamy they would love to have second marriages...
It was their internal joke...
They dreamt of having a huge big happy family with his kids n wife, her kids n husband and their own children living together in one huge house that they would call A Happy Home...
Some things are good for dreaming...
Fantasising became satisfaction...
They are happy with each others company now...
Happily living dual lives of social norms laced with responsibility and attractive compatibility laced with romantic undertones...
Complicated but so real...
